Created in March, 1998 at the Samara state university the first structural division of additional vocational training - Training centre and retrainings of experts  - was opened  by Minobrazovanie of Russia under the initiative of Academic council of SSU supported by Council of rectors of high schools of the Samara area, in spring of 2002  faculty of improvement of professional skill of teachers of the higher and secondary special educational institutions  led to strengthening educational positions of university in region. Realization of programs of additional education became one more source of additional means and social protection for students and teachers of SSU.

Activity of the Center is versatile, in full conformity with requirements of the state educational standard educational programs of improvement of professional skill of experts are being realized, the opportunity of reception of additional qualification and additional specialization is given to students of university, the adult population of region has an opportunity to be trained in German language.

Responding to a pressing need of a society in the experts-psychologists, teenage preventive support, teenage and youthful narcotisms, the Center forces of teachers of psychological faculty has developed base educational program of improvement of professional skill « Psychological preventive support of a narcotism »

 for workers of social sphere of municipal educations and employees of law enforcement bodies.

Base educational program of improvement of professional skill « New information technologies » is developed by teachers of mechanical-mathematical faculty and are being realized on the educational modules grouped in three levels: initial preparation (the first level), the professional user (the second level), the developer and the manager (the third level). Training on the first level will be organized, mainly, for employees of enforcement authorities and power structures. Programs of the second and third levels are focused on experts of the organizations, telecommunication services engaged in granting, on employees of the scientific and design organizations.

By teachers of biological faculty and employees of a botanical garden within the limits of the Centre  the program of professional retraining in a direction "Biology" with specialization « the Phytodesign and bases of a landscape gardening facilities » is realized. The system of the subject matters providing preparation of the expert in the field of a phytodesign, corresponds to a modern level of a biological science and is focused on  fulfilment of the social order for preparation of experts with the profound knowledge of bases of a landscape gardening facilities.

For students of university of all specialities the Center gives an opportunity to receive additional qualification " the Translator in sphere of the professional communications " on a compensatory basis with the state diploma about additional higher education. Realization of the curriculum on additional qualification « the Translator in sphere of the professional communications » is provided with the qualified teachers of faculty of English philology, faculty of German philology, faculties of foreign languages of natural and humanitarian faculties.

Except for programs named above additional vocational training Centre realizes also many other  programs covering practically all directions of experts preparation  licensed in university.

From the beginning 2004/2005 the program of additional vocational training "Teacher" will be realized by the Centre .

Base faculty of faculty of improvement of professional skill of teachers of the higher and secondary special educational institutions is the faculty of the theory and techniques of the vocational training created in September, 2002, headed by the doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor Rudneva T.I.

For teachers of the higher and secondary special educational institutions subordinated to the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, due to means of the federal budget the faculty makes improvement of professional skill on basic educational program « Pedagogics and a technique of vocational training » which in practice is realized through various modules, for example, such as « Image of the teacher of high school », « Pedagogical skill of the teacher of college », « Professional culture of the teacher of high school ». The teachers working in high schools and secondary special educational institutions of other departments, and also in municipal and non-state educational establishments, are trained at faculty on a paid basis.

For post-graduate students and experts with the experience of work not less than two years the faculty will organize training under the program of additional vocational training « the Teacher of the higher school » with delivery of the state diploma about additional higher education. The first release of listeners of this program from among post-graduate students of SSU takes place in the spring of 2004.
